10/18 Program: PRESERVING OUR HISTORIC AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

  • 1.  10/18 Program: PRESERVING OUR HISTORIC AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

Saint Louis has long been a national leader in the preservation and restoration of historic structures, yet like most industrial cities in the US, we have also lost huge swaths of our urban fabric to demolition. How do we decide what to save, what to salvage, and what to sweep away? If you've dealt with historic projects, you probably have asked these and other questions.

Our speaker at the October meeting, Meg Lousteau, director of the Cultural Resources Office of the City of St. Louis, is well qualified to provide some of the answers. Her academic background in architectural studies and in Urban and Regional Planning led her to a career in preservation, including serving as head of the Louisiana Landmarks Society and as executive director of the Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents, and Associates in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Expect a wide ranging discussion that might touch on advocacy, land use policy, governmental relations, community engagement, state and municipal governance, fundraising, and tourism management.

Once again we are live at the Masonry Institute, and online via Zoom -- your choice. But you only get food and drink if you attend in person, thanks to our sponsor Pella Windows and Doors. Register here: 10/18 Meeting

Join us at our October meeting “Preserving Our Historic and Cultural Heritage” as we explore how to recognize, respect, and maintain the essential elements that make human environments culturally rich, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable.
