MAJOR IBC CHANGES REGARDING FIRE PROTECTION AND LIFE SAFETY 

This training presentation focuses on the major International Building Code (IBC) changes regarding fire protection and life safety from the 2018 to the 2021 editions and from the 2021 to the 2024 editions. This presentation will also include the reasoning and intent for many of the code changes. 
The majority of jurisdictions (Cities, Counties, States, etc.) either already adopt or will be adopting the 2021 or 2024 editions of the IBC. CCI are experts in the fire protection and life safety requirements of the IBC, including the application to projects, and actively participates in the IBC code change process.  Learning Objectives Include: 
1. Understanding the IBC code change process. This includes the timing, how proposed code changes are submitted, and how code changes are discussed / debated and approved. 
2. Understanding the major changes regarding fire protection and life safety from the 2018 to the 2021 editions of the IBC. 
3. Understanding the major changes regarding fire protection and life safety from the 2021 to the 2024 editions of the IBC. 
4. Understanding the adoption of the IBC and the application and use of the IBC in designing projects, including the appendices and local amendments. 
Fire protection and life safety related code changes will include topics regarding definitions, occupancy classification and use, special requirements, construction type, fire and smoke protection features, fire protection and life safety systems, means of egress, and elevators.
