(Improving your substitutions game with CSI)
Choosing the right construction products and correctly relating them to each other is an important part of the design process. Effective product selection requires careful consideration and professional judgment. It’s no surprise that product substitutions are a nuisance for the designers who have already invested substantial effort selecting the correct product and documenting that selection in contract drawings and specifications. Product representatives preparing a substitution request can find the processes and procedures confusing and cumbersome. And owners view substitutions with suspicion, sometimes questioning the competency of their designer or contractor for not getting it right to begin with.
Nobody likes substitutions, but hardly a project gets built without them. In fact, substitutions are an important part of the construction process that, if properly managed and clearly understood, can benefit all parties and improve overall project success. This seminar deals with the entirety of the substitution process starting with the original product selection during design and ending with incorporating the substituted product in the contract documents during construction. It will benefit architects, engineers, product representatives, owners and anyone who deals with the process of substitutions.
