After participating in a Green Building Council panel discussion last night, with peers from several other design and construction organizations including the AIA-COTE, IES, SEI, and the AGC, I was inspired to reach out to you all. Construction Specifications specifically and the CSI more generally, is reactive and supportive. Others make the decisions and the demands of a project, but specifications are what locks it in contractually. Without the detailed requirements offered in Specifications, all other sustainability agendas are just good intentions. Heck, all agendas are just good intentions.
What could the Greater St. Louis Chapter (regional and national too) do in regards to this topic, understanding that we may already do it but need to communicate and promote it better?
A wonder I have is if we could be a better resource on this topic (no agendas, just informational)? At a minimum, a clear statement regarding how the topic should be addressed in Specifications, from applicable Divisions and Sections, to sample verbiage. After than, we could provide links to other sources of information that could inform the Specifications, from Standards to Organizations.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
