President's Report

Happy New Year!  The St. Louis Chapter is busy working on several upcoming events.  Starting with our February program, we are having a 3-part series on floodwater management to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Great Flood of 1993.  Please make sure to register online (www.stlouiscsi.org) for these programs and to see the full schedule.

On April 26, various exhibitors will be displaying new products at our Products Show, which will be at The Heights Community Center in Richmond Heights.  The call to exhibitors will be going out soon.  Also in April, members of the Chapter will be heading to Duluth, MN, for the CSI North Central Region Conference.  In 2019, our Chapter will be hosting this same conference in May, and we will be needing volunteers to help organize the many events built around the conference.  Please reach out to the Chapter to find out more info.

If you are interested in assisting on a committee, please reach out to the Board.  We are also accepting nominations now for our elections to be held later this spring for our new Board members.  If you would like to be considered, please contact an existing Board member.

Hope to see you at an upcoming program!

Maryland Heights, MO 63043

This program kicks off a series of three presentations commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1983 Mississippi River floods. First presented at CONSTRUCT 2015 in St. Louis, this seminar looks at the relationship of the river to the city, and explains how James Buchanan Eads designed and built an unprecedented structure that assured the city’s economic survival.

The Eads Bridge pioneered the use of structural steel, its foundations reached record depths through the use of pneumatic caissons, and its cantilevered temporary supports allowed free access to river traffic during the entirety of its construction. Each of these techniques will be explored as an innovative solution to a design problem, and placed in historical context. 1.5 units AIA-CES (LU/HSW)

George A. Everding, FCSI, CCS, CCCA, AIA, had a 40-year career as an architect, specifier, and construction administrator. He taught classes on specifications and building material selection at St. Louis Community College at Meramec and at Washington University School of Architecture.  An active member of the Greater St. Louis Chapter of CSI, he served as chair of the host chapter event planning committee for CONSTRUCT and was co-chair of CSI’s Certification Committee.

CDT Study Sessions: Register by Jan. 31

February 17, 2018
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Masonry Institute of Saint Louis
1429 South Big Bend Boulevard
Richmond Heights, MO 63117

The Construction Document Technologist or "CDT" is a certificate program for developing A/E professionals in the creation and execution of contract documents.  Earning your CDT requires mastering a body of knowledge and taking an exam.   The Sessions are locally provided, face to face instruction by working A/E professionals.  Attend all Sessions and earn 18.5 hours of AIA/CSI accredited learning units.  As an alternative to self-study, the CDT Study Sessions provide you focused, organized instruction needed to pass your exam, and comes with lasting benefits to your day to day project performance.

Study Session Registration is open now and closes January 31st, 2018.**  The Sessions are offered only once per year and enrollment is limited, so act now.  The first Sessions begin on February 17, 2018 and run 8 weeks with 11 topics on weekday evenings and weekends to suit working professionals.   All necessary study materials are included in the cost of enrollment.   Please note: there are no late enrollments after registration closes.

This is an intensive course of study, but accessible to all experience levels.  Those with 3 to 20+ years of experience have attended, and each realized unique benefits for their work.  Many wish they had earned their CDT much sooner.  What CDT training costs you in time and energy in an already busy life, will pay you dividends over your entire career.

To get started, see the links below for a program guide, syllabus, schedule and cost.   It is not necessary to be a CSI member to attend the Study Sessions, but significant discounts are available to new (and existing) members who choose to register for the CDT exam.**

Remember:  Your CDT training benefits your firm.  Bring the program guide to your employer and ask them about cost sharing in professional development that adds value to their company.

Give yourself a gift of knowledge and make a resolution to get your CDT!  Register now!

**Note:  CDT Exam registration opens in January 2018 and is a separate step at www.csinet.org.   Registering for Study Sessions does not register you for the CDT exam.
